And They Live Happily Ever After.
I have a new blog header! Yay! You don’t see it if you are reading this post, but just click “Blog” in my menu and voila! There it is! It’s painting I did for my lovely friend, Katy. There will be a video on how I painted soon (I hope, my sister still has to check the footage for me.), but you can see the full image soon in my Lookbook.
Okay, a staring post for you this time! Last year, one of my wonderful friends got married and she asked me to design a “Fingerprint Tree”. Now at first I had no clue what a fingerprint tree was. After some research, I was pleased with the meaning behind it, but not with the actual examples I saw. They were too plain for me. While I know that the focus is on the fingerprints…this doesn’t mean you can’t have something magical as well. I was determined to give it my own spin and my lovely friend, was more than happy to give me the creative space I needed. So I started sketching…
I like to scribble around my sketches hehe. Surprisingly, I had the final sketch in one go. It really just flowed out of my hands. The only thing I changed was that I made the tree fatter (hehe). But then I just started with the inking, painting, re-inking, painting again and then the final touches! Have a stare please.
Just some washes of color lalalaa
I don’t think I’ll ever get used to how one wash of color can change the entire feel of a painting.
I had to keep in mind that the entire feel of the painting had to be light and magical. Sometimes it’s a bit difficult to see if I have to add more layers, but usually as soon as I start to doubt I have to either put it aside or I shouldn’t add more layers. As you can see above…I still had to add more layers. So I continued…obviously hehe. As you see below, I started to re-ink the lines. When I re-ink lines I often can see if I need to add more washes. It often pulls the image together.
And the end result is below!!
And in full glory BEFORE the wedding when it was in my home and AFTER the SJ & Michael’s magical wedding day 😀
Ah wish you could see it for real, pictures don’t do it justice! I’m so pleased with the end result and I’m very glad that I was able to really give it a personal twist by adding SJ’s request of a special quote and the wedding rings with their names on it 😀 And of course…one can’t forget about the sparkles…
Soooo what do you think? Mrs. SJ, thank you SO much for the lovely collaboration and for allowing me to be on your wedding through the Tree of Memories. Mrs. SJ is a wonderful photographer as well. You can see more of her work on her Facebook Page.
Now I absolutely enjoyed doing this and the meaning behind it is just too lovely. So I want to do more!! 🙂 I know the wedding season is coming up and if you are getting married or if you know someone who is getting married AND who would love to have memories captured in a tree as well…just e-mail me or point them into my direction please.
I’ll be showing peeks of different trees as the time passes. Also, I’m not staying with weddings alone…this idea can work perfectly for baby-showers, special birthdays etc. It’s such a cool way to have a different type of guestbook.
What do you think of this idea? Do you like it? Or do you rather have a regular guestbook?
